These super simple and delicious pizza scrolls for kids are a hit in our family. A perfect lunch option when you’re in a rush or a hearty afternoon snack! You and your kids are sure to love these.
For a while, I was struggling to come up with healthier lunch options for my kids. They are currently six, four and 20 months old, so finding a lunch that works great for all of them was the goal.
Not to mention that my two daughters have allergies, so anything with eggs and nuts are out of the question!

What makes them super simple?
They only contain three ingredients, if you want to go the easy route and buy puff pastry (otherwise if you make your own, there will be more than three ingredients).
The three ingredients are:
- Puff pastry
- Pizza sauce
- Cheese
That’s it! I told you they are super simple.
What else can you add to the pizza scrolls?
I’m all about super simple over here, but I am equally all about nutritious.
These pizza scrolls are a great option when food is running low in your household, so the three ingredients mentioned above might be all you have on hand. But if you want to make them extra tasty and nutritious, you can add:
- Ham
- Shredded chicken
- Capsicum
- Mushrooms
- Onion
- Olives
- Pineapple
The list goes on: anything you can put on a pizza would do just fine.
If you want to make your own puff pastry
Here is a great recipe to follow, one that contains no nasties and uses just simple ingredients.
I don’t often use store-bought puff pastry, because I prefer to make things from scratch, but sometimes it’s more convenient to use store-bought puff pastry when you’re short on time.
Tools you will need
- Baking tray
- Spoon
- Grater
Ingredients
- 2 slices puff pastry
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (here’s my favourite brand)
- 1 cup cheese (shredded)
- Your favourite toppings (ham, mushroom, onion, capsicum, chicken etc.)
Method
- Preheat oven at 210 Degrees Celsius
- Once the puff pastry slices are defrosted, spread the pizza sauce over the base with a spoon
- Shred the cheese with a grater and sprinkle the cheese over the top of the pizza sauce
- Add your toppings of choice
5. Roll up each puff pastry slice into a log shape
6. Cut the log into 6 or so slices and place onto baking tray at least 2cm apart
7. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes or until browned and crisp
8. Serve cooled
Notes
Why I use a block of cheese rather than store bought shredded cheese?
Sadly, store bought shredded cheese often comes with more preservatives to keep their shape. I prefer to buy a block of cheese which usually contains no more than milk and salt. Here’s my favourite brand.
Make sure to use puff pastry instead of shortcrust pastry, as the puff pastry gives that crispy, puffy texture that is suitable for these pizza scrolls.
You can always use pure tomato paste instead of pizza sauce, however, I would add some sea salt and herbs to it to add more flavour.

How to serve these super simple and delicious pizza scrolls for kids
We ate ours for an easy dinner option with some roast vegetables on the side. However, they are probably best eaten at lunch with some chopped up carrots and cucumbers, boiled eggs and fresh fruit. Or eaten on its own as an afternoon snack is a great option too!
