Overhaul Your Family’s Diet in 5 Simple Steps
Here is my roadmap to overhauling your family’s diet in five simple steps. By the end of this blog, you will have more clarity and confidence in nourishing your family.

Okay friends, buckle up.
I have been wanting to write something like this for a while and just didn’t know which way to go with it.
But I’m making it super simple and easy to follow if you really want to dive in to overhauling or at least, tweaking your family’s nutrition.
Maybe you want to limit how many snacks your kids eat every day.
Maybe you want to tweak your own diet.
You might just want to balance your hormones a little better.
Or maybe you just need a nudge to start cooking more at home and eating less fast food.
Wherever you sit on the pendulum swing, I hope that by the end of this, I can give you some clarity about what to do from here.
What Led Me To Caring So Deeply About Family Nutrition
It has quite literally changed my family’s life – the way we eat.
Let me just be honest – I wish we practiced everything I stand for as a Holistic Nutrition Consultant, but I’m a firm believer in balance, so there is lots of balance and lots of grace when it comes to food in our home.
However, for the most part, we eat whole foods and at home.
If you read my post earlier this week about my 8 year old’s near death experiences, you would know that we have anaphylaxis, allergies, asthma, eczema and coeliac in our family and that’s just what my two girls alone have.
So healing the gut from the inside out is what I could talk about all day, because we have walked this road of gut healing with our daughters for the past few years and it’s been a gamechanger to say the least.
That aside, I love the generational effect of nourishment.
Many different cultures have uniquely beautiful ways of passing down nourishment wisdom, but as a western society, we have lost touch with this ancestral way of eating.
My hope is that my children and their children will learn the value of eating well, of stewarding the bodies given to us.
And if you’re reading this, I hope you will start to explore this way of eating too.

My Roadmap to Family Nutrition
I’m going to briefly touch on a simple roadmap to follow for your family’s health. And then I’m going to share with you something dear to my heart.
- Understanding the foundations of holistic nutrition
- Learning to nourish yourself as the mother
- How to live in rhythm with your hormones
- Learning to nourish your child/ren
- Cultivating rhythms in your home that are peaceful and make room for nourishment
Let’s dive in, friend!
1. Understanding the Foundations of Holistic Nutrition
If you don’t know what’s good and what’s not good to eat, then you won’t eat the way you were designed to eat.
I believe in real food. I believe it is medicine in many ways.
Yet, we have chosen what is convenient.
What is fast.
And what is easy.
If we truly want to eat to nourish and feel good, so we can steward our lives to its full potential, then we need to start learning about what IS good for our bodies and why.
Start there.

2. Nourish Yourself as the Mother
As mothers, we are more depleted than ever.
It’s a flow on effect from pregnancy to postpartum to thereafter. Then we often have more babies and continue that cycle of depletion.
What I want mothers to grasp is that nourishing their families starts with nourishing themselves.
Being under-nourished is not pretty.
If you can learn to nourish yourself with real food and through peaceful rhythms, then that’s your next step.
3. Live in Rhythm With Your Hormones
Okay, hormone health has been my favourite topic to explore and help other women with.
It’s actually crazy how little we know about our hormones as women!
I actually just did a podcast episode (my sister and I host a podcast btw!) with a Fertility Care Practitioner named Caitlin from Woven Fertility Care Clinic. so feel free to listen to the episode. We dive into topics like navigating infertility, birth control, teaching your daughters about hormones and how to nurture your cycle as a busy mama – it’s definitely worth the listen!
I would say that this would be the third step to learning how to nourish yourself as a woman, is getting curious about your hormones and how to support them in every phase, not just in your menstrual phase.

4. Learn to Nourish Your Child/ren
I’ve worked with many mamas over the years and their biggest pain point is getting their kids to eat nourishing foods.
I get it. I’ve had several picky eaters over the years, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
I’ve learnt some secrets to nourishing my kids that don’t include bribery.
It’s actually so important to take them on the journey with you and start educating them about why eating to nourish is important.
That’s my fourth step for you – get your kids on board. Do this together.
5. Create Rhythms for More Peace in the Home and to Make Room for Nourishment
Those other steps hinge on this last step.
If you don’t have rhythms in the home to make your life more streamlined and peaceful, then you won’t have time to nourish your family.
That’s the truth.
When life has been chaotic because I haven’t been intentional about my time or what we say no to as a family, those weeks call for more take out, less time to move my body and less time to actually sit still and breathe.
Nourishment is about making space for life to move more rhythmically. It’s not just about food.
And please hear me out – there is soooo much grace if you are in a rocky season (think newborn season, someone in the family just died season, life just flipped upside down season etc.) – I am all about grace here and those seasons call for it more than anything.
My last step is zooming out on your life right now. What needs to change so that you can make space for more streamlined rhythms and time for real food?

Something Dear To My Heart
Last year, I went through one of the darkest seasons of my life.
I literally hit rock bottom from postpartum depression and burn out.
From that time, I learnt how to move forward in a new way.
I learnt to nourish my body with real food, live life in rhythms and not in hustle mode and nurture my family the way God has called me to – not perfectly, but in the best way I could.
I wanted to help other mothers learn to live this way.
Help her get out of hustle mode.
Help her nourish herself better.
Help her turn chaotic meal times into peaceful, enjoyable ones.
That’s where my Nourish Your Family program comes in.
I created this program in the margins of homeschooling, during nap times (half an hour cat naps I tell you!) and when my kids were in bed for the night.
I initially ran this program with three groups of women over the past 9 months, all who found the program extremely helpful in different ways.
Then I decided to make it evergreen, because I wanted to reach more people and in this season of my life, it made more sense to do it this way.
It’s more than a program – it’s a new way of living.
You don’t have to survive on cold coffee and three hours of sleep.
Your children don’t have to live on packaged foods that lead to sugar imbalances and constant hunger.
You’ll learn nutrition wisdom that will keep your family nourished beyond the latest Pinterest dinner recipes.
You’ll learn how to have a peaceful home that leaves margin for nutrient-dense foods and not just mac-n-cheese.
You don’t have to live malnourished and burnt out.
It really can be so simple.
And you might just need that nudge from me.
I can guide you every step of the way!
