The Simple System I Use To Feed My Kids Three From Scratch Meals A Day
Steal my simple week A and week B meal plan that has saved me time, money and has allowed me to make my children three homecooked meals a day without the stress and last minute run to the grocery store.

As a mama and Holistic Nutrition Consultant, it’s no surprise that I am passionate about raising healthy eaters.
But if I can be honest, some of my kids don’t have the most diverse taste palates and won’t just eat anything (I’ve come to realise that they go through stages of this, thank God!)
I love nourishing my family, but I don’t love being in the kitchen all day, so if I can simplify this in any way, I will. I think many mothers can relate to this.
They want to feed their family good, real food, but they don’t want to spend the whole day preparing for it.
Last year, I went through a season of burnout (you can read about it here). Since then, I’ve been healing by the grace of God and through the power of rhythms.
In our home, I have learned to simplify and streamline my life better so that I don’t end up in a place of burnout again.
And one of those ways is by simplifying how I nourish my family.
Over the years, especially in light of platforms like Pinterest and Instagram, I have felt overwhelmed by the thought of making my family’s meals from scratch.
The desire is there but the season doesn’t always call for it.
The season when you’re seven months pregnant with swollen feet.
The season when you’re postpartum on two hours sleep.
The season when you have kids under age 5 and you can barely get through the day without showering.
The season when your kids have sport events, dance recitals and music lessons every other evening and there’s little time for cooking.
So if you can relate to any of this and are feeling like you want to simplify how you nourish your family but just need a simple system to follow, then let this be it!
Here’s what I do to nourish my family with three meals a day
To be clear, this idea is not my own. It’s actually from another homeschooling mama and since learning it, it has been a gamechanger for our home too.
- Pick out 7-10 meals that your family eats regularly and enjoys.
- If you make your snacks/baked goods from scratch, pick 1-2 that you can bake weekly.
- Spread these meals and snacks out in a week A meal plan and week B meal plan.
- Now with these meals and snacks in mind, create a grocery list for week A and one for week B.
- Print out the meal plans and grocery lists and keep them on the fridge or wherever you will see it often.
- Change the plan seasonally!
Here’s what it should look like!

I put the meal plans on the fridge and keep the grocery list in an accessible folder that I pull out when I’m about to order my groceries.
We also change these meal plans seasonally, so that we are eating foods fitting for the season. So as it is Spring right now, we’re eating a lot of fresh salads, barbeque meats and lighter meals.
If this doesn’t work for you, I encourage you to create a SIMPLE system to nourish your family.
If eating homemade meals isn’t that important, but eating protein-rich foods is important, then you might want to batch-prep your protein and add simple sides like sourdough bread, olives, cucumber, cheese, pickles, rice cakes etc.
Or maybe you need quick meals as you are a busy mama who isn’t home often – so pick meals that don’t take longer than 15 minutes to build, like a nourish bowl or chicken wraps.
Now I’m not one to batch prep meals, but I do make more than we need to last us two meals or at least dinner and then lunch for the next day.
Simplifying your meals really will help simplify your life and it starts with making a plan first.
And trust me, the hour it takes to create this system will be worth the many hours you save trying to figure out what to eat for dinner at 5pm.
